Are you overwhelmed and confused making your own homemade skin care products?
If so, you’re not alone. I’ve talked to a lot of people and there are so many who just end up giving up. When I hear this, I find it so disappointing! There’s no reason you can’t make some great products for you and your family.
Here are my theories about why you may have given up and what you can, and should, do about it.
Are you doing too much, too soon?
Based on the stories I hear from people this is one of the biggest problems. A lot of the people I talk to try to make something that isn’t suitable to their experience level, or even impossible for an at-home DIY’er.
If you are trying to make something and you can’t even get past the research phase it’s no surprise you give up. Or if you do get past that and your results aren’t as good as you hoped that too is is really discouraging.
If so, just keep it simple.
If you’re making products for yourself focus on the right kind of products. Use your essential and carrier oil use charts to personalize them. Look for similar products online and modify those too!
Are you trying to make too many products at the same time?
This sucks the fun out of DIY skin care! When you’re trying to make EVERYTHING while you’re still in the learning phase it becomes too overwhelming.
There’s no way you’ll maintain interest if it’s not fun and rewarding. Besides, you’re not going to connect with the ingredients which is what makes the process so much more enjoyable.
Start with the basics!
You don’t have to make EVERY product. Start with these. These are by far the easiest products to make. They’ll save you a lot of money, and you’ll be able to make a superior product – especially with the charts.
Do you know enough to be afraid, but not enough to feel confident about what you make?
The more you research the more you’re learning about essential oils, carrier oils, and preservation. While learning about their awesome power, you’re also learning about the dangers.
Not only do you have to worry about making a product that works but you also make sure you won’t harm your skin in the long term or clog up your pores. And using a product that goes bad or moldy is also a really scary endeavor too!
